A mother wanted a portrait painting of her 1-year-old, but not in a traditional portrait style. She wanted an illustration “in your fun funky style” she told me. One that as her child grew they would appreciate more things about it. She said her daughter liked bugs, birds, and lots of colors. So I painted her this whimsical portrait. I started with several rough thumbnail sketches before we landed on the final concept. I then moved to a line drawing and a color comp, the line drawing was tweaked one more time before beginning the final painting.
