Radiant Church did a series on Holiness. The concept behind the series art was based on black ink that on film we would run backward to reveal a white screen. The black ink represents sin the white background represents Holiness. We decided on the font for the logo as a department. I was responsible for the photography, and design work for the series. I set up a 20-gallon tank of water and lit it with Alex Welgraven (our video & motion designer). We poured ink into the tank. I took a series of photos while Alex shot the video of the ink. The photos would be used in series art as well as to create the brand for the series.
We used India Ink in some shots and a bottle of my Tattoo Ink that expired (so I found another use for it) in others. We got some pretty different effects between the two types of inks, I definitely recommend experimenting with different ink types when doing Ink and Water Photography. At the end of one of the tank dumps, I got experimental. Just before we emptied the tank from one of the many times we added ink to it, I noticed some cool effects happening. I grabbed my iPhone pressed it against the tank and took a couple of last-second shots. Some pretty wild colors came out of the black ink. Then I processed them with VSCOcam with lv01 preset. Cool things happen when you pay attention and let your creativity take over.
